Isabelle Lao is a Research Intern for the Arctic Institute. She is a contributing writer to the Institute’s flagship weekly publication, The Arctic This Week (TATW). Her contributions include the Energy and Mining sections of the newsletter. Previously, Isabelle has conducted research exploring diesel divestment in the Canadian Arctic. Furthermore, she has also interned with a micro-grid financing company that aims to help remote Arctic communities decrease their diesel dependence. Her main interests lie in renewable energy as it pertains to the Arctic as well as the implications climate change has on communities in the North.
Isabelle is currently working towards her Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry with a minor in Statistics at the University of British Columbia. With this, she aspires to contribute to the renewable energy sector by not only conducting research to develop new technology, but also help with the implementation of this technology in the real world.
