Ethan Wong is a Research Associate at The Arctic Institute. He contributes to The Arctic This Week’s Take Five, the Institute’s weekly news analysis publication. His areas of interest include non-Arctic state involvement, the Arctic Council, regional governance, and geopolitics.
Ethan is currently pursuing a Master’s in Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Oslo, where he focuses on the status and influence of the non-Arctic state observers in the Arctic Council. Ethan is also a Master’s Student Fellow at the Fridtjof Nansen Institute and a Research Fellow at the North American and Arctic Defence and Security Network. Previously, he worked as a Research Fellow at the Center for Climate and Security, an institute of the Council on Strategic Risks.
Ethan was a 2024-2025 US Fulbright Student to Norway. He holds a BA in International Studies from American University, School of International Service, and a minor in Data Science. His undergraduate research focused on analyzing the national Arctic strategies of Arctic and non-Arctic states using quantitative text analysis methods.
