Ingrid Heggstad is a Research Intern at the Arctic Institute, contributing to its flagship weekly publication, The Arctic This Week (TATW). She is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Environmental Change and Management at the School of Geography and the Environment at the University of Oxford. Ingrid also holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the War Studies Department at King’s College London, where her dissertation explored Norway’s High North policy post-2022.
Her MSc focus lies in examining the direct and indirect impacts of Arctic change, particularly how knock-on effects in the economy, geopolitics, and climate feedbacks can outweigh short-term economic gains. Previously, Ingrid worked in the Political Economy, Energy Security, and Development team at ITSS Verona.
Climate change heightens Arctic security tensions, but the greater risk lies in how states respond in a transforming region.
