Laurel Baker is a Research Associate at The Arctic Institute and contributes to the institute’s flagship weekly publication, The Arctic This Week (TATW), (TATW), where she oversees the ‘Politics & Law’ and ‘Map of the Month’ sections. She is also a national-security practitioner.

Laurel holds an MA in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies from Stanford University and a BA (Honors) in Russian from the University of Michigan. Generally, she is interested in the Sino-Russian relationship, gray-zone operations, and security architectures in the global commons.
