Serafima Andreeva is a Research Associate at The Arctic Institute. Her primary affiliation is Researcher at the Fridtjof Nansen Institute, which is the leading research institute on Arctic international affairs in Norway. She is also affiliated with the North American and Arctic Defence and Security Network (NAADSN) and former Council Chair for Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS).

Her work and research interests are primarily governance and geopolitical dynamics in the Arctic with a primary focus on analyzing the geopolitical tensions after 2022. She has published literature on science-diplomacy in the Arctic, particularly by analysing the Arctic Council. She has also studied Russian climate policy and climate adaptation, as well as Russian security politics in the Arctic region, and shipping along the Northern Sea Route. She has published a number of articles, reports and op-eds, including in Polar Record, The Polar Journal, Arctic Review on Law and Politics, and Internasjonal Politikk.

She holds a Master’s degree in Sociology and a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), where she has also worked as Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant. After completing her degree she has participated in several research schools on international relations in the Arctic, including Calotte AcademyNVP International Summer School, and High North Dialogue Academy.
